It’s not a huge secret in my house that I like to shop for clothes. In fact, it’s not a secret at all. I like to shop for clothes. It annoys DH that I’m always online shopping for clothes, even if I’m not buying anything.
And here is the earth shattering admission: like many, I buy things I don’t need. I have closets overflowing with stuff. I have sold about $1000 worth of clothes on Poshmark, which sounds awesome, but really just funded more clothes! It’s a hobby. It’s not driving me into debt or anything, but it is getting just a teensy bit ridiculous. Particularly cause there are certain things (like fuzzy items…fleece…dresses…
Anyways.
DH challenged me to only purchase one item per month for 2015. Yup, one item. All month. I’m really looking forward to the challenge. Significant analysis is going to go into each and every purchase! He did agree that if I demonstrated the need for some basics (by presenting used basics with holes), that I could supplement the one item, but that’s for necessities like socks. So, sorry my retail friends (J.Crew….Lulu….TB…), but I will be toning it down for 2015.
How does this have to do with travel, you ask? Well, there will be no impulse clothes purchases for trips (that nevvverrrr happens…). I will make do with what I have. Moreover, all the money that I won’t be spending will go to pay for a Galapagos trip in 2016!
Strangely, I’m crazy excited for this challenge. I’ll have extra time to improve my blog and continue writing. Maybe I’ll even start to work on my photography. Most importantly, I’ll be simplifying and not just buying. Bring it on!
