There is no sugar-coating summer weather! We’ve had some really nice days, but the heat and humidity have started to set in. I headed up to Cape Cod to meet my mom two weeks ago, and it was 90 degrees one day, even on the Cape. I’m spending long hours outside doing bikes and runs, and logging lots of hours in the pool. I did a post about a year ago on hair products that are great at protecting your hair from lots of damage, and decided it was about time for a new product wrap-up for the summer.*
*And nope, none of these products are sponsored! Some of these are affiliate links, which help keep the blog up and running. As always thanks for supporting TS.
These products either provide skin/hair protection or work to soothe dry and damaged skin/hair from chlorine and sweat. And, for traveling, I still think my favorite travel bottles are these little puppies – found here on Amazon – which work great for most products. These travel bottles are easy to wash out and also easy to squeeze to the last drop. Raise your hand if you hate bottles you can’t squeeze and spend ten minutes trying to get the stuff to come out while jumping up and down and swearing in the shower? Yea, they are the worst.
First up, on the left, is the Malin and Goetz Peppermint Shampoo (you can find here). This shampoo helps to get the gunk out–in my case, sweat, salt, and chlorine. It’s super refreshing and leaves your hair clean and crisp. I like the little bit of tingle, too. Easy to transfer to a travel size container.
Second is the Zealios Sport Body Lotion (you can find it here). Despite the fact that this bottle makes me want to scream (it’s hard to squeeze), this stuff is the best for itchy swimmer’s skin or after a long hot cycle. It has aloe vera and hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture. It works. Also easy to transfer to a travel size container.
Third is the Neutrogena Hydroboost Water Gel (get it here). Also with hyaluronic acid, this stuff soothes my face with no burning when the sweat and salt leaves it peeling and nearly raw. Not at all greasy, I also find I can apply it multiple times throughout the day. It smells super fresh. Can transfer to a travel size container, or buy a small version for your travel kit.
Fourth, going clockwise, is the first product I’ve tried from Supergoop! (here). Besides the fact that the name of the company is cool, this Setting Mist is something I probably should have been using for a long time…it sets makeup, controls oil, and delivers UV protection (SPF 50). It’s a spray, so you just spritz some on. Even though my skin is super dry, it can also get very oily during the day. And though I apply SPF every morning, I know it doesn’t last throughout the day. So two thumbs up for this. Get a travel size for travel.
Lastly is Aqua Guard. While I don’t always remember to slather this on before I hop in, I wish I did. It’s super for pre-swim, whether in the pool or in the ocean. It prevents the tangles and also the horrible feel of dry hair. Now, I do find that it can cause some build-up after using it over and over, but that’s what a good shampoo is for. Would be great for kids, too, that have swimming lessons this summer. Can either easily squeeze into a to-go tube or buy a travel size for travel. Find it here.
