Thanks for visiting! This site is a work in progress. I am not a full-time traveler, and though occasionally I'd like to run away to somewhere exotic, I do actually enjoy my job, my husband, and my dog. Not in that order. But I do enjoy vacationing. A lot. I've enjoyed lurking on the travel blogosphere (is that still an acceptable word? I don't know these things) for many years, and finally decided to join in.
About me...
I traveled extensively in the United States when I was a kid...up to 43 States at last count. I then became a horse-obsessed girl, and spent days/weeks/months doing nothing but riding and cleaning up horse sh*t. But I needed a break, so I exchanged one obsession for another. After my first trip to Tanzania in 2006, I was hooked. I'm also a bit of an obsessive organizer and planner. Sticky notes with lists (yes, I still write many things down by hand...the horror) make me unusually happy. As I've gradually been able to travel more and more, I've realized how much I love researching hotels, reading travel blogs/forums, and booking air tickets. Dear husband (DH) and I were married in 2013, and while he is not a planner, he indulges my obsession (usually...and probably within reason). We have an adorable Jack Russell-poodle mix, that will obviously make a few cameos as she runs our life. If you know her, you know I'm not kidding and actually underplaying the horribly controlling nature of our parent-pet relationship.
If you are dying to see a photo of us, you'll have to traverse the blog. Here, you'll only find our canine, who is unfortunately (fortunately?) significantly more photogenic than either of us. Sorry to disappoint. To justify her inclusion here, she's appropriately chewing on a tyrannosaurus-rex bone.
Why TravelingSaurus?
Travelsaurus was taken.
Seriously?
Well yes. But a thesaurus, if I remember what I learned in 6th grade English (which is nothing), can be translated as a treasure or treasury of words. So TravelingSaurus is a treasury of traveling experiences. Lofty, lofty goal...
That sounds too profound.
I really love dinosaurs, because they remind me of my dog, who frequently acts like a little dinosaur. Because I obviously know exactly how those little prehistoric beings behaved in the Triassic period (sarcasm, people, sarcasm). I also like nicknaming things/actions like a 10 year old. For example, I'm a texmexasuarus and a sleepasaurus. See? Now you know two more things about me than you did before.
For a second of seriousness: I really enjoy to write and want to provide tips, stories, pics, and practical information to people--like us--that work full time but also like to see the world in short, quick snippets. Just because you only have a few days or 2 weeks doesn't mean you can't travel! But it does mean that you might need to travel with clear priorities and plans.
I love lusting over new destinations, reminiscing over old ones, reviewing gear/clothes (and reading reviews!), and engaging with the awesome community of travel bloggers that exist. So much to see, so much to learn.
