Sometimes I Really Wonder if There is Anything Better than an African Sunset...
The first time we visited Namibia, we spent a few days in the Caprivi Strip and in the Caprivi Game Park, also known as the Okavango strip as it's part of the bigger Okavango ecosystem.  To say it's beautiful doesn't really capture the essence of the area. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a visit, particularly in coordination with Chobe National Park or other parts of the Okavango Delta in Botswana.

Originally, Germans believed that the Zambezi would lead them to the Indian Ocean, so they decided to claim land surrounding the Zambezi (it's named after Count van Caprivi). Unfortunately, the Zambezi isn't particularly navigable (uh, Vic Falls?), so that didn't work out so well.
I've heard people say Namibia wouldn't be their first choice for a sub-saharan Safari trip. Fair enough. But that doesn't mean it's not absolutely picturesque.  And it certainly doesn't mean there aren't a ton of animals to still be seen. Also, we got to see the animals "in action". Rather than just roaming the plains, we saw them drinking and crossing a very-crocodile infested river. While the sun went down.  Unbelievably scenic.

And cold, particularly since my luggage had been lost for 3 days and pillaged while missing.  Word to the wise--don't underestimate the chilliness of an African night!

So here is the Caprivi Strip...stunning, remote, incredible. With the fattest crocodiles I've ever seen.

Your pictures of the animals and sunsets are amazing. We've been wanted to go on a African safari with our kids. I've never heard of Namibia before. Thanks for linking up to #WeekendWanderlust.

Funny how you mention that most people wouldn't pick Namibia for their sub-saharan Africa safari: Namibia would be one of my first choices! Being able to check out the desert dunes and mysterious coastlines along with all the great wildlife watching would really sell it for me. Awesome photos :)

Hi Ryan-- After the Caprivi Strip, I liked it enough to go back for a whole trip, just to see the rest of Namibia! I loved it, and wouldn't hesitate to go back for a third time--such great variety, as you say.
